Xuesi (Melody) Yin

Biography

Melody completed her MSc in Materials for Energy and Environment at University College London in 2023. During her master’s, she carried out her research project in the Davies group, where she worked on the development of polymer nanocomposites for environmental applications, with a particular focus on pollutant removal. Following the completion of her MSc, Melody joined the Davies group as a PhD student in November 2023. She is currently undertaking her doctoral research at the University of Birmingham, where her work focuses on the synthesis and controlled assembly of magnetic nanoparticles.

Research Interest

Melody’s research focuses on the synthesis and assembly of iron oxide nanoparticles with different morphologies. Her work explores the controlled synthesis of iron oxide nanoparticles and their subsequent assembly into one-dimensional nanostructures using a flow-based magnetic assembly approach. By comparing nanoparticles with different morphologies, she aims to understand how particle shape and properties influence their assembly behaviour and the resulting 1D structures. Her research aims to develop controlled strategies for producing well-defined magnetic 1D nanostructures from different nanoparticle building blocks.
